Questions and answers

The things people ask us most before they decide. If yours isn't here, just message us.

Safety and quality

Is the care as good as at home?

The hospitals we work with are accredited by JCI (which also accredits many US hospitals) or NABH, India's national standard. They do these operations every day, use modern equipment, and doctors and nurses speak English.

How do you choose hospitals?

We only work with large hospitals accredited by JCI or NABH that already look after overseas patients. We check accreditation on the accrediting bodies' public registers, and look at how often the department does your operation.

What about infection risk?

Accredited hospitals have to meet infection-control standards to keep their accreditation. Ask your surgeon about their own approach on your video call. We'll help you prepare the questions.

Will my doctors and nurses speak English?

Yes. English is the working language in major accredited hospitals, so you can talk to your surgeon directly. We can arrange an interpreter for other languages.

Costs and payment

Why is it so much cheaper?

Staff, living and legal costs are much lower in India, and hospitals sell treatment as a fixed package. Even with flights and a month's stay, the total is usually a fraction of the US price.

How do you make money?

You pay us a fixed fee, from $500, agreed before you pay anything. You pay the hospital directly for your treatment. We don't take money from doctors or add anything to the hospital's bill.

What's included in a quote?

Usually the surgeon's and anaesthetist's fees, the operating theatre, a set number of days in hospital, routine medicines and tests. Pre-op tests, premium implants, extra days and medicines after discharge are often extra. We list everything in writing before you book.

How do I pay the hospital?

Directly, usually by bank transfer or card. Some hospitals ask for a deposit before admission. We never collect hospital payments on their behalf.

Will my insurance pay?

Usually not for planned treatment abroad, but there are exceptions. Our insurance guide explains the options by country.

Travel and visa

What visa do I need?

An e-Medical visa, which you apply for online. It usually takes 2–3 days, and up to two people can come with you. The hospital provides the letter you need, and we help with the rest.

How long will I be in India?

About a week for dental work, three weeks for a knee or hip, and three to four weeks for heart surgery. Your plan will give you exact dates.

Is it safe to fly home after surgery?

Your surgeon decides when you're fit to fly and gives you a letter for the airline. To lower the risk of blood clots, you'll usually wear compression stockings, drink plenty of water and walk around during the flight.

Can someone come with me?

Yes, up to two people on e-Medical Attendant visas. For major surgery we recommend it. We can find a place to stay with room for both of you.

During your stay

Where will I stay after hospital?

Usually a serviced apartment or hotel close to the hospital, checked for lift access and a step-free shower. We share photos before booking.

Is the food and water safe?

Hospitals prepare meals to your clinical diet. Where you stay, we make sure you have purified or sealed bottled water and can arrange plain, familiar food.

Who helps me after I leave hospital?

We arrange home nursing visits, physiotherapy and medicines through vetted local partners, and your case manager is your one point of contact.

Will I have a phone and internet?

Yes. We give you a local SIM when you arrive, and the places we suggest have Wi-Fi.

If something goes wrong

What if something goes wrong?

The hospital is responsible for your medical care and has intensive care on site. We stay with you, keep your family informed, and sort out any extra stay, visa extension or travel changes.

What if a problem shows up after I get home?

Most complications appear in the first weeks. Your doctor at home has your records in English, and your surgeon in India stays in touch by video. Treatment at home is paid for by your health system or insurance, if they cover it, or by a specialist complications policy. Ordinary travel insurance won't. Our insurance guide explains the options.

What if I'm unhappy with the hospital or doctor?

Hospitals have a formal complaints process, and doctors are registered with medical councils in India. We help you raise it in writing and follow it up.
